Business: Disney’s latest results show sales rising by 6 per cent to $22.6 billion in its fourth quarter. The films, Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, helped the company achieve its positive results. Disney+ also did well, with an operating profit of $253 million in the last quarter. This compares to a loss of $420 million at the same time last year.
Markets: US stocks fell slightly yesterday after the Chairman of the US Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, indicated caution on the speed of future interest rate cuts. Speaking in Texas, Powell said that “the strength we are currently seeing in the economy gives us the ability to approach our decisions carefully”.
Foreign Affairs: Donald Trump has chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr as his Health Secretary. Kennedy has said that he would return US health agencies to evidence-based science. Kennedy has also had a history of spreading conspiracy theories about vaccines, cancer and autism. He started his career as an environmental lawyer.
Security and intelligence: Brazilian Supreme Court Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, has said that a suicide bomber who killed himself outside Brazil’s supreme court on Wednesday had wanted to blow up the building itself. This has raised security concerns as Brazil prepares to host the G20 Summit next week.
